A Good Sort saved the day and saved a relationship! Hard working in the unbearable summer LA heat as we left them with a HUGE task . Massive walk in closet and a garage that felt like an impossible task. The Closet had 150 lbs of laundry dumped on the floor, the garage had a warehouse full of contents literally dumped in it too. In May 2019 , I was starting to think of ideas for a major remodel of my home ,in the fall .I needed new windows before winter and I wanted to do something with my old stone floor basement that ran the length of the house . My closets were bulging and so much more . I had a specific budget , I couldn’t do it all . Olwen from A Good Sort , a professional home organizer was in town , visiting some friends. I booked her to come give me a full home consultation. The most amazing thing I could have done. She gave me great ideas . One was adding an en suite master bathroom. I was using the room next door to my master bedroom as a staging area for my favorite clothes . it was full of racks of clothes and shoes and stuff! I was frustrated by the lack of proper closet space in my home. I had lots of closets but they were original to the home and old style , small and badly designed . Based on olwen's recommendations I had my contractor rip out both small closets in my master bedroom. And make one big closet with glass sliding doors which really opened up the room. I asked olwen to come back to help me this year after all the construction work was done . I thought I had purged my closets and organized things pretty well. But I still couldn’t access some items easily, more frustration. Olwen helped me organize my things in a way that made total sense for my lifestyle. I had over stuffed the new master closet! We discussed utilizing the other closets in my house and using the nearly empty basement space as extra storage for seasonal items and things I never wore but wanted to keep! I know, I know, I’m working on not keeping items I never wear! I have a lot of clothes and shoes and other stuff, seriously I have a lot ! And after all the great work i had done in my home I wanted all my stuff to look good but also be easy to access.. It takes a lot of time and money getting organized. Very frustrating for me that it doesn’t go faster or I can’t click my fingers and have it all done instantly , but all the time spent on this major project , is so worth it. Hiring a pro is the way to go , especially financially . I learnt the hard way hiring “ cowboys “ on my first renovations . Pay the professionals, they know what they are doing . Olwen is a Pro . She has been doing this for many years and she knows her stuff . Lots of great ideas. She is professional but very personable and she allows you to discuss ideas and gives you great feedback too. Before Olwen Turtle from A Good Sort came to our home I felt uncomfortable to let anyone into my office. That’s because my office was so sloppy and unorganized. But Olwen always makes me feel very relaxed and she is never judgmental. She always takes care of my mess , easily and seamlessly. Olwen has been to our home before, several years ago. When I knew things were getting out of control again in my home office, I called her and we scheduled a day to work on my piles. I am getting older now and forgetful and it is harder for me to manage all the paperwork, memorabilia and stuff that floats in and out of my life and ends up in my office. I was having difficulty getting into my office as boxes were blocking the doorway and covering most of the floor. I dreamed everything in my office was easy for me and my husband to reach. Olwen worked with me to achieve that dream. We purged a lot of boxes of paperwork throughout the day which was really liberating and made me so happy. Identifying what and why I hold on to all those papers was even more eye opening . I will not look at my mail and papers that arrive in our home in the same way ever again! We saved all the good stuff and Olwen put those things into containers or boxes and labelled them clearly, so I can find them easily. She also set up some new file folders which are very easy for us to read (most important ) and access. We will use our files now as we can get to the desk in my office. Yes, I have homework to do , but it is not so overwhelming. And I am very aware that it took a long time to gather the mess and it takes a lot longer to clear up my mess. Olwen from A Good Sort , coordinated a complicated house move from one part of town to another this summer . House fell out of Escrow and there were multiple date changes. Had to change moving companies and handyman due to date changes, several times and Olwen took it upon herself to take care of ever last detail for me. Olwen coordinated several home moves for my elderly mother in the last year and a half, as I live overseas in Amsterdam. My mother lives in Los Angeles. She moved my mother from one home to another and then a year later from her home to a care facility. She helped me immensely with every detail and also figuring out what items go to different storage units and other homes. The whole process involved downsizing and also going through a huge amount of boxes that came out of storage, filled with family memorial dating back many years. She coordinated and consulted with many of my family members and of course my mother too. I am embarrassed to admit my home office was a disaster that always over flowed on to my dining room table, the floor ,the kitchen table and eventually everywhere in my home! My New Years Resolution was to get organized. My realtors had the wonderful insight of hiring a Professional Organizer to help me when I was getting ready to move home after many years. My mother (she is 91) and I were traumatized with the thought of moving and downsizing her from her own home to go into assisted living. Overwhelmed with the whole getting organized situation but knew I needed to do something as things were out of control especially in my home office . A friend suggested getting profession help from an organizer . I didn't know people like Olwen existed. Consulted with A Good Sort and was very happy with the meeting. I was anxious and overwhelmed again when they arrived to do the work . I did not do any of the homework suggested at the Consultation before the work began. I had no idea how important doing the homework would be overall but especially in relation to the budget. But I did work on the list of homework provided after the initial work session which has helped me keep my budget under control. About Olwen Turtle..of "A Good Sort"......I was a fashion model with Eileen Ford in the Fifties, along came The Television Set and "the TV Commercial".....and then, in the Sixties, my contract to Alfred Hitchcock to Star in THE BIRDS, and MARNIE ,.......I had over that period of years, the opportunity to collect a wardrobe that is unusual, unique, beautiful, extensive, and expensive....day clothes, cocktail dresses, evening gowns, jewelry, shoes, scarves......I have had a building built with cedar lining to house this collection. I have always been lucky enough to have very busy but enjoyable jobs - I thrive on the multi tasking and the hustle and bustle but somehow, when it gets to organising me I just find it impossible - I seem to run out of energy knowing that I have a vague grasp on things and nothing too disastrous will happen if I leave things another week or three! I requested help from “A Good Sort” organizing service because of its very favorable references on "Angie’s list".  Olwen the owner helped me to de-clutter & organize approximately 8 years of disorganized office files and related paperwork; overstuffed closets, including filled boxes of photos, clothing, etc. which were in numerous piles throughout my master bedroom and in a second bedroom as well. I had attempted to tackle this problem myself but it was overwhelming.  Olwen came into this situation and with her efficiency and precise & creative organizational skills made an insurmountable task manageable.   I also requested her professional organizer assistance including her decorator skills with many other projects in other rooms/areas in my home, all which she handled with great professionalism & sensitivity.  Olwen first tackled the master bedroom, initially to address years of unfiled paperwork; and during this process I asked Olwen’s assistance to also redecorate this bedroom which hadn’t been decorated in almost 20 years.  She carried out this project enthusiastically with many valued and creative suggestions. This included wall paper removal, painting, king size bed removal; removal & assistance with the selection of mini blinds and bookshelves:  Olwen coordinated purchases, their installation and supervised the workmen; and as well did the personal shopping for designated items.

Over a period of several weeks, Olwen tackled multiple projects in my home skillfully, with a boundless energy and cheery attitude; her knack for repurposing items was especially appreciated.  She is focused and with her professional organizer abilities successfully resolves challenging tasks and brings order out of the chaos.   My living space is now a restful and peaceful environment; and it’s great to be able to easily access information from my files. Coming into a person’s home to de-clutter and re-organize is a most personal and delicate undertaking; and what Olwen brings to the job is her rare ability to pace the work respecting the client’s emotional readiness “to do the work.”  I look forward to working with her on future projects.
